VH1s Best Week Ever Cancelled After Six Years

While the VH1 show Best Week Ever is known for bringing fans a comedic recap of the week’s biggest news stories, the show that features mainly unknown comedians has put its flare on its strangest story yet: reporting its own cancellation.

The series was created in 2004 as a spinoff of the network’s popular I Love the 80’s mini-series. Originally, it featured a variety of talking heads, but in an attempt to bolster sagging ratings in 2008, the producers brought in former Daily Show contributor Paul F. Tompkins as a permanent host. Even after this change, ratings continued to decline, and the show was put on an indefinite hiatus last summer, which the network announced would become definite on January 13.

According to a statement on the show’s website, BestWeekEver.tv, “The folks that worked on the show were some of the smartest, funniest, kindest people you could find. It was a real creative collaboration from start to finish, and in between hard work and late hours you could find real friendships and dedication. It goes without saying that each and every person who helped make Best Week Ever the success it became will move on to even bigger and brighter opportunities.”

Some of the Best Week Ever staff will even get the opportunity to maintain the show’s website, at least for the foreseeable future, and will continue publishing the latest news stories, interviews and videos. “The blog will be here to nurture you, comfort you, hold your hand, and be the footsteps in your digital sand,” the website’s statement even joked.
