New Keith Richards Documentary Rumored
The Rolling Stones’ guitarist Keith Richards is stepping out from behind his instrument to become the focus of his own documentary, and Johnny Depp is set to direct the film, The Playlist is reporting. The music social networking website claims it received the information after Depp was in Drvengrad last month for the opening of this year’s Kustendorf Film Festival, where a statue of his image was unveiled.
While the mega-successful group has been featured in several documentaries before, including ‘Gimme Shelter,’ ‘Shine a Light’ and ‘Sympathy for the Devil,’ this will be the first to exclusively feature Richards. It will also mark the first time Depp took on a directing role in 13 years, since the Native American drama ‘The Brave.’
The Playlist also quoted Depp as saying that when he was in Serbia, he had an editor already reviewing ‘kilometers’ of footage featuring Richards. Depp also said that he’s “very touched that Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras,” but there’s no word yet whether or not filming has begun.
If the documentary is indeed filming, it will be the second time the duo has worked together. Depp based his infamous, Academy Award-nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl’ and its sequels on the guitarist. Richards even appeared in ‘At World’s End,’ the third film in the series, as Sparrow’s father, Captain Teague.
